OvertimeMessyDeskStates and Businesses Sue to Halt Federal Overtime Rule
This week, 21 states and a coalition of more than 50 business groups filed separate lawsuits challenging the new Department of Labor (DOL) federal overtime rule.

The federal overtime rule is scheduled to take effect on December 1, 2016. It changes the salary level that must be met before an executive, professional or administrative employee can be exempt from overtime. The minimum federal salary test for these exemptions will increase to $913 per week ($47,476 annually for a full-time employee) — an employee paid less than this threshold amount will be guaranteed overtime pay. womenbreakingboundariesCSUSM to Host Women Breaking Boundaries Speaker Series
In April 2016, California State University San Marcos President Karen Haynes met with University Council members Rita Brandin (Senior Vice President, Development Director at Newland Communities) and Linda Bailey (President of Community Strategies Group) to discuss an idea for a co-curricular, distinguished speaker series featuring successful women. The intended goal is to feature successful women leaders and provide a forum for the women to share their career journeys/paths, particularly in nontraditional fields/sectors.

All CSUSM students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend for free. Community members are invited to attend for a nominal $25 fee which will include the cost of parking. More Info

“Candidates are realizing that an extraordinary cover letter and resume with strong references aren’t enough, that if you really want the gig, you have to stand out from the competition,” said Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer for CareerBuilder. “Unfortunately, what many aren’t realizing is that the catch is making sure you do that in a professional, respectful way.” Read More.
