Court Blocks Federal Overtime Rule

Yesterday afternoon, a federal court in Texas issued a nationwide preliminary injunction blocking the Department of Labor (DOL) from enforcing the new federal overtime rule which was set to take effect on December 1, 2016.
The federal overtime rule has been controversial, as it more than doubled the current federal salary level that must be met before an employee can be classified as exempt from overtime under one of the so-called white-collar exemptions (the executive, administrative and professional exemptions).
The federal overtime rule required a minimum salary of $913 per week, which is also higher than California’s minimum salary threshold. Read More.

Business Round Table: Economic Development Element of the Oceanside General Plan
Please join the City of Oceanside at Gilead Sciences on December 1, 2016, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am for a Business Round Table meeting to discuss the Economic Development Element of the Oceanside General Plan. The goal is to create an economic development vision for Oceanside that will assist in bringing businesses to the city, assist the businesses that are already in the city, and keep the city economically viable into the future by developing long range policies driven by economic development that will echo through the other elements going forward. Deanna Lorson is Assistant City Manager for the City of Oceanside with primary responsibility for Economic Development. She leads the City team in implementing the City Council’s goals of job creation, economic growth and fiscal sustainability in partnership with the community. In that role, Deanna oversees the Development Services, Water Utility, and Public Works departments, and Harbor and Economic Development divisions.
Deanna will be providing the Emerging Issues Committee with an economic development update to include new businesses, development projects, and current economic development initiatives.
