California Court Ruling Could Complicate Background Checks

California employers should take note of a recent appellate court case that could complicate employment background checks. When conducting background checks, it’s common to search for a person’s name in conjunction with a birthdate or driver’s license number so you can be sure you’re looking at the right records. But, in All of Us or None v. Hamrick, a California appellate court ruled that neither an individual’s birthdate nor driver’s license number can be used to identify someone when searching a court’s electronic criminal index. First Tuesday Coffee has always been a great opportunity for Oceanside Chamber members to connect with other businesses in North County. City of Oceanside Advances Two Major Projects to Diminish Homelessness
59 Permanent Supportive Housing Units for Homeless Oceanside Residents
On June 16, 2021, the City Council committed $3.5 million and 59 section 8 housing vouchers towards a 60-unit affordable housing development to be built on the west side of Greenbrier Drive between Apple Street and Oceanside Boulevard. The project will also include $6 million in state funds, along with private sector funding. More details.
50-Bed Homeless Shelter for Oceanside Residents Coming
At its June 30, 2021 workshop, the City Council received presentations by two potential operators for a future homeless shelter to be located at 3131 Oceanside Boulevard and selected San Diego Rescue Mission as the shelter operator. More details.
EDC Study Quantifies the Impact of AI in Region’s Cybersecurity Cluster
The EDC, alongside Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) and Booz Allen Hamilton, released the second study in a series on the proliferation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) within San Diego County’s key economic clusters. “Securing the Future: AI and San Diego’s Cyber Cluster” quantifies the economic impact of the region’s Cybersecurity cluster and explores the proliferation of AI and ML technologies being used to thwart cybercrimes, among other critical needs by the private-sector and government.
