Mesa Rim Expands to North County
Mesa Rim Climbing Gym in North County? Yes, Please! Mesa Rim has announced that it will be opening up a location in 2020 that is similar in size and scope the the Mission Valley Mesa Rim location. EvoNexus Names Marco Thompson President
Congrats to SDSI founder, Marco Thompson for joining the executive team at EvoNexus! “As President of EvoNexus, Mr. Thompson is responsible for the oversight of all activities for the San Diego incubator, including portfolio deal flow, admission to the program and mentoring the portfolio. Additionally, he, along with Rory Moore and Dr. Chrisikos, will be responsible for making strategic and institutional investor introductions to portfolio companies when they are prepared for an infusion of capital.” Let’s just hope this new role doesn’t cut too deep into his wakesurfing/wakefoiling time! USA Skateboarding Team Announced at CA | TF
CA Triaing Facility - the state of the art skateboard training facility featuring full size competition Street and Park Courses and home to many Olympic hopefuls - was the natural host for this big announcement as Skateboarding prepares to be debuted in the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Sixteen professional skateboarders, including Nyjah Houston and Lacey Baker, were named to the US national team to compete with eyes on the 2020 Olympics. “Kids all around the world, and the adults, are going to learn from skateboarding what has taken place here in Southern California for many years,” says Gary Ream, USA Skateboarding chairman. “And the biggest change we’ll see from all of this will not necessarily take place in this country, but it’s going to resonate throughout the rest of the world.” Read the full article on ASN.
Wonderfront Music and Arts Festival Announced for November
There is a new festival announced to take place on the San Diego Waterfront that fills the void left by the departure of the San Diego Street Scene. With backers from the Sport and Active Lifestyle space such as Tony Hawk, Trevor Hoffman, and Rob Machado, this is sure to be a must-attend event. Pechanga Arena’s Ernie Hahn (also SDSI Advisory Board Member) said “We spent a few years looking at various sites including Camp Pendleton, North Island, Fiesta Island, Balboa Park and more. We did an exhaustive search, in terms of: ‘If you could put on the ultimate festival here, where would the site be?’ We wanted the perfect location.” Read the full article from Union Tribune.

TaylorMade announced this month their multiple level, 42 foot long TaylorMade truck weighing in at a mere 22 tons! “The truck is equipped with more than 1,500 shafts, 1,200 TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x golf balls, 1,000 grips, over 700 clubheads, and 500 hats and t-shirts. FuelSmart was selected as part of Quake Capital's West Coast Challenge Venture Exhibit, which was held in January at founder, Rigo Laborin’s Alma Mater, USC.
