DIRECTOR'S LETTER

Connecting Communities was the theme of our second-annual Wasatch Back Economic Summit—a joint-venture with the Park City Chamber of Commerce.  In this meeting, community and business leaders from Wasatch and Summit counties gathered to learn about issues facing both communities.  The word connecting applies throughout the Heber Valley as our members continue connecting through networking lunches, service projects, and a host of other community events.

Last week, our staff paired up with members of the Chamber advisory board and connected with about 30 Chamber members.  These visits helped us better understand the challenges and opportunities that our businesses face.  We anticipate making regular visits to our Chamber members while also launching a new social media campaign to promote our businesses and to encourage our residents to “shop local.”

Later this month, the Heber Valley Chamber is launching a Silicon Slopes Chapter to help connect some of our companies to technology resources throughout the state.  We’ll hear from the Silicon Slopes team during our monthly luncheon and learn more about the tools that help our businesses succeed.

Here’s to the best summer ever!

Business of the Month: Sorensen Insurance

Evolution, simply put, is the process of gradual change from one state to another. Things all around are constantly evolving and changing and adapting. Many of the most successful businesses throughout history are the ones that have been able to adapt to and adopt new technologies, new ideas, and new challenges. These changes help create new products, or new values, or new social good. Sometimes, however, this evolution becomes deeper and more introspective. Sometimes this evolution has to start from within.

Rob Sorensen, of Sorensen Insurance, has been in the Heber Valley offering Bear River Mutual Insurance since 2003. Always wanting to be in the financial industry in some degree, he was encouraged by his father to start a Bear River branch in the Heber Valley. The idea was simple enough, provide a quality product with good pricing to the community. The opportunity sounded interesting to him, because as someone who gets “antsy” for a change, starting his own business offered plenty of variety.
