Keeping Clean in 2018

We hope everyone had an amazing time ringing in the New Year. At ILACSD we're excited to embark on another year of cleanups, workshops, and zero waste solutions! Even with all of the work that is ahead of us, we want to take the time to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our donors, sponsors, and supporters who made our work in 2017 possible. Every dollar you invested in ILACSD enabled us to educate communities at environmental presentations, protect our local beaches and parks at cleanups, and divert waste from landfills with our zero waste database, WasteFreeSD.org. We are looking forward to serving our communities even more in 2018  and hope to do so with you by our side again!

Be a 2018 Creek to Bay Site Captain

Step up to lead your local cleanup as a Site Captain for the 16th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup on Saturday, April 21st from 9 am - 12 pm! With over 100 cleanups in San Diego County, our site captains lead their individual sites on the day of the event by serving as the main point of contact for volunteers, passing out supplies, giving a safety talk, and keeping a record of the trash & debris collected. ILACSD supports each site by providing supplies, volunteer outreach, and site coordination. After the event, site captains report back to ILACSD with their site totals! If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Lauren Short at  lshort@cleansd.org to learn more!

Volunteer Spotlight: Kenneth & Armando

Meet Kenny and Armando, two 9th graders at King-Chavez High School and this month’s Volunteer Spotlight. We chatted with the duo after our cleanup in Spring Valley this past December. While many teens might want to spend their Saturdays sleeping in, Kenny and Armando make the most of their mornings by enhancing the local environment at cleanups. Kenny explained the two opt to volunteer regularly at community cleanups with ILACSD and his church. Filling us in on why they choose to volunteer at cleanups, Armando said, “If you don’t clean parks, litter ends up in streams and rivers. We found a bunch of trash in the creek bed next to the park, and if we didn’t collect the trash it would all wash away towards the ocean.” Only two weeks later, Kenny and Armando were back at it in Mission Bay at our Movies Over Messes cleanup. These gentlemen know how to put words to action and make an impact for the environment! Way to go!

Recycle Your Christmas Tree

This holiday season, ILACSD, the County of San Diego, and the City of San Diego have joined together to encourage residents to give their Christmas tree a second life through recycling. Throwing away Christmas trees needlessly wastes natural resources and occupies limited space in San Diego’s crowded landfills. Remember to remove ornaments, garland, tinsel, lights, nails, and tree stands (metal or plastic) before recycling. Please note that no artificial trees will be accepted at the sites listed. Trees must be dropped off during daylight hours only. Visit WasteFreeSD.org and search “Christmas Tree” in the search bar to find the closest drop-off location.

Shake Shack Opens Second SD Location

Shake Shack is officially open in Mission Valley! Our friends over at Shake Shack opened the doors of their second location in San Diego and deepened their partnership with I Love A Clean San Diego. When you snag the Pie Oh My concrete (featuring a seasonal slice from Betty’s Pie Whole!), 5% of proceeds are donated back to ILACSD. Thanks to Shake Shack for connecting and committing to care for San Diego communities with this tasty partnership!

 Our Mission

I Love A Clean San Diego leads and inspires our community to actively conserve and enhance the environment through example, outreach, and local involvement.
