Volunteer Spotlight

We would love to highlight Miguel Aldrete, the founder of Kids 4 Our World as our volunteer of the month!

His group participates in our Adopt-A-Beach program, which gives volunteers, like Miguel, the opportunity to choose when and where they wish to clean up. Miguel’s favorite experience was when he organized a cleanup at South Mission Beach. “As we walked from the volleyball courts toward Belmont Park, we were thanked by beach goers and after the beach cleanup, we had a bonfire to thank all the volunteers who came out to make a difference.”

Miguel started up Kids 4 Our World at the young age of 8 when he realized, “you don’t have to be an adult or famous to make a difference in our world.” Thank you Miguel for all that you do!

Campers Learn Simple Ways to Reduce Waste

Aug16 ed spotlight

Even when school’s out, our educators are still busy teaching new groups about protecting our earth. This summer, we’ve been at Camp Oliver, a summer camp in Descanso. As these campers have learned, reducing the amount of trash we each create is critical to conserving resources, reducing litter, protecting animals, and ensuring the longevity of our landfills. This lesson is put into practice with a repurposing craft; campers transform unwanted t-shirts into tote bags, with plans to use these bags at the store, the library, sleepovers, and beyond. Thank you to the County of San Diego for supporting this hands-on program!

ILACSD Expands Clean Energy Education Programs

sdlmc3p

This month, we’d like to recognize San Diego Gas & Electric for their commitment to keeping San Diego clean! Outside of their energy saving resources like the SDG&E Marketplace, they recently selected ILACSD as one of their Power Your Drive campaign partners! We will be working together to make information about clean energy more accessible to all San Diegans.  Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to learn more!
