Volunteer Spotlight: KP Charpentier

Meet our July Volunteer Spotlight: KP. After joining us at our Clean Cities Initiative Cleanup where he and his friends collected trash, recyclables, and hundreds of cigarette butts, KP has continued to volunteer across the county at our Watershed Warriors Cleanups! KP is from Hillcrest and works as a Pharmaceutical Quality Auditor. When asked about his involvement, he replied, “I think it's important to clean up litter because everyone deserves to live in a clean and healthy environment. It's a great way to make a positive difference in the local community, and every little bit helps.” Besides being a "Watershed Warrior,” KP loves to travel! He is currently studying his 6th language (Dutch), and loves hiking, photography, and exploring the food scene in San Diego.

Thank you, KP, for keeping San Diego clean!

Be a Coastal Cleanup Day Site Captain
site captain article

Step up to lead your local cleanup as a Site Captain for the 34th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 15th from 9 am - 12 pm! With over 100 cleanup locations in San Diego County, our site captains lead their individual sites on the day of the event by serving as the main point of contact for volunteers, passing out supplies, giving a safety talk, and keeping a record of the trash & debris collected. ILACSD supports each site by providing supplies, volunteer outreach, and site coordination. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Lauren Short at  lshort@cleansd.org.

Zero Waste Tip: Make it a #PlasticFreeJuly

2018-07-02 CBC Press Event (26)

With summer in full swing, make sure to grab your reusables and celebrate Plastic Free July! If you’re heading to the beach, swap out plastic bottles and utensils for reusable canteens and silverware to help reduce marine litter! Pack sandwiches in reusable containers instead of plastic bags to decrease the amount of single-use plastics that end up in the ocean. You can also store fresh fruits in hard plastic coolers instead of Styrofoam alternatives. However, if you do bring trash to the beach, don’t worry! Keep an eye out for the Clean Beach Coalition’s trash and recycling bins, and dispose your waste there. These bins ensure that trash does not overflow during the busy holiday weekends and enter the ocean!

Swapping out single-use plastics for reusables isn’t the only way you can reduce marine litter! Join ILACSD and the Surfrider Foundation at East Fiesta Island on July 5th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at our Morning After Mess Cleanup
