Volunteer Spotlight

This month, we would love to highlight a truly dedicated trio who have been volunteering with us for eight years! The Brittons (mom, Denise and her two children) have been putting in their time to better the San Diego community through their varied efforts with ILACSD. They have volunteered at over six events in a row and dedicated over 30 hours in just two months! Denise believes that instilling volunteerism from an early age will help shape our future generations with values learned through giving back.

The Brittons love the outdoors from beaches to mountains, and they explore nature through sports such as snorkeling, skiing and hiking in places all over the world. For Denise and her children, it is painful to witness the devastation of pollution occurring in the places they love the most, and they know it is our responsibility to take care of the earth that we call home.

“We share this planet with other living things that have no voice on how we treat their habitat and it is up to us to manage it so future generations can enjoy the great outdoors and all the wonderful wildlife this world has to offer” says Denise.

Volunteers like Denise, Nicole, and Simon are invaluable to ILACSD for their dedication and passion.  Many thanks, Britton Family!

Thank you, Coastal Cleanup Day Sponsors!

sept-16-donor-spotlight-2

We are grateful to the sponsors who have helped make Coastal Cleanup Day possible,  including our top tier sponsors: the County of San Diego, SDG&E, and Wells Fargo, our presenting sponsor, Think Blue San Diego, and our statewide sponsor, the California Coastal Commission. Republic Services will also be providing significant waste hauling support! Several sponsors have also gone the extra mile by inviting employee volunteers and their families to be present at cleanup sites across the county. Thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors for your investing in a clean San Diego!

ILACSD staff jumped into the new school year by visiting Discovery Charter Elementary in Chula Vista. The 6th grade students learned about watersheds, water pollution prevention, and the importance of individual actions collectively improving our environment. ILACSD offers a variety of NGSS-aligned experiential learning curriculum to K-12, many at no-cost to the school. If you or someone you know would like us to visit their classroom, please contact education@cleansd.org!
