Registration for our countywide cleanup, Creek to Bay, is officially open at CreektoBay.org. The 16th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup is a one-day event that gives local residents the opportunity to be a channel for change and create a cleaner, healthier San Diego County. In 2017, more than 6,500 volunteers demonstrated their dedication to San Diego’s environment, removing over 190,000 pounds of litter and debris during the three-hour event. We hope you'll join us on April 21st from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at one of our 114 cleanup locations in neighborhoods, parks, beaches, and open spaces throughout San Diego. For more details, registration, and a complete list of cleanup sites, visit CreektoBay.org.

With a tagline of “Your Neighborhood, Our Environment,” Creek to Bay highlights the importance of acting locally to contribute regionally. Volunteers can get involved at a site in or nearby their neighborhood and make a difference for the overall health and beauty of the entire county. While trash removal is a large focus of the event, volunteers will also enhance their communities through beautification projects such as native planting and graffiti removal. These beautification projects restore local outdoor areas and evoke a strong sense of community pride.

Spring Has Sprung

Zero Waste Tip: Add WasteFreeSD.org to Your Spring Cleaning Tools

Spring has sprung and it's time to get your Spring Cleaning done! Start the season off right by disposing of your common household hazardous waste (HHW) the correct way. HHW includes common home products such as paints, automotive fluids, gardening chemicals, and household cleaners containing potentially hazardous ingredients that require special care when you dispose of them. The improper disposal of hazardous waste creates a very real threat to individuals and the environment plus it is illegal to discard hazardous waste in the regular trash! To find a local household hazardous waste facility visit WasteFreeSD.org.

Volunteer Spotlight: Keith Riggio

As an ILACSD boardmember, Keith Riggio is no stranger to volunteering. In fact, that's how he got started with ILACSD. Now, with his role on the board, Keith still continues to amaze us with his dedication and commitment by showing up to countless cleanups and bringing along friends and family members whenever possible!

For his birthday, Keith celebrated by inviting his loved ones to volunteer at our Storm Drain Stenciling Day in Pacific Beach. He encouraged friends to make donations in place of any gifts and even pledged to match donations. With this generous offer, Keith and his friends raised $240 on behalf of ILACSD. Thanks to Keith and all of his friends and family for making Storm Drain Stenciling Day and absolute joy!
