DIRECTOR'S LETTER

The need for collaborative planning has never been greater along the Wasatch Back.  Last year, the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Park City Chamber and Summit County to sponsor the first-ever Wasatch Back Economic Summit.  This historic gathering of community leaders from Wasatch and Summit counties produced insightful discussions, meaningful partnership, and a lot of good information.

This year, we are excited to sponsor the Wasatch Back Economic Summit on May 30.  Among the many important discussions is the Mayflower development near Jordanelle State Park.  As the space for this event is nearing capacity, we encourage you to register soon to learn more about the challenges and opportunities we all face in one of Utah’s most desirable locations.  We appreciate your support.

Best Regards,

May Business of the Month: Midway Mercantile

Midway Mercantile Staff.JPG

Long before John Platt, executive chef at Midway Mercantile, ever put on an apron, or concocted his first recipe, he was an English literature teacher. As he taught the classics from writers like Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson their words began to stir inside him and he began to ask himself what is his passion.

In one of Emerson’s writings he said, “Be yourself; no base imitator of another, but your best self. There is something which you can do better than another. Listen to the inward voice and bravely obey that. Do the things at which you are great…”

Teaching these ideas of following your passions and being your best inspired John.

“I thought to myself, wow walk the talk. This is the thing I want to do, so go do it,” said John. “It was exactly what my soul was suited for.”

John took a leap, he switched careers, gained valuable experience in the restaurant industry, found a business partner in friend and colleague Pablo Butler and eventually opened a restaurant of his own. After running a successful restaurant in Seattle for over 17 years, John and his wife Sandra Perala-Platt found and fell in love with Midway.

Road Changes at Heber Valley Hospital

Beginning Wednesday, May 8, access to the hospital from 1500 South and Highway 40, which is the South West entrance will be closed. All patients and visitors need to access the hospital, clinics, ER and InstaCare from the entrance off of 1200 South 500 East.

With the construction at Heber Valley Hospital, we are creating a road that will connect to future parking by the South West and Northern entrances.  This road will also be accessed from either 1500 South or 1200 South. For the new road to be completed before Fall 2019, we need to close the existing road this spring. We will be relocating, and installing utilities, building the new road and building additional parking.
