Whenever I slip into shorts after a long, cold winter in leggings, I feel like a snake shedding its skin. My legs feel lighter, finally free of all that bunched-up material around my ankles and knees; and my stride feels bouncier, eager for track workouts and spring races. My favorite shorts are the ones that can carry me through whatever workout I choose for the day, whether that’s a long run, speedwork on the oval, or a few easy miles.
Luckily, Vuori’s Chase Performance Short does just that. While the company is best-known for its athleisure wear, these athletic bottoms are designed with serious runners in mind. They’re not too short nor too long, and feature water-resistant material, a seamless bikini liner, plus an elastic waistband that stays in place, no matter how fast or slow you’re going that day.
High-Tech Material, Low-Maintenance Feel
With its buttery fabric and elastic waistband, the Chase Performance Short could be easily mistaken for loungewear, but its technical features prove otherwise. The shorts are made with perforated, water resistant material that lets you breathe while keeping you dry from pesky spring showers. Plus, the logo and pocket zipper lining are reflective, so you’ll be visible on those early morning miles.
Our Favorite Features
What struck me first about the shorts was their pretty turquoise color (the shorts are also available in black) and unique jersey-like fabric, which felt lighter and more breathable than my standard polyester-blend bottoms. They’re designed with a stretchy elastic waistband, similar to boxer briefs, that fit me like a glove without digging into my skin or slipping down during my run. I also loved the sleek and subtle front zipper pocket that kept my car key and ID secure without too much bouncing. While running, I never felt the bikini liner or waistband rub my skin or ride up, and they kept me cool throughout a four-mile tempo—what more could you want?
