In this Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, file photo, Detroit Lions outside linebacker DeAndre Levy (54) celebrates a defensive play against the New Orleans Saints during an NFL football game at Ford Field in Detroit.

DeAndre Levy, who played just 16 snaps last year because of a hip injury that required October surgery, was a participant in the first day of off-season workouts for the Detroit Lions today.

The Lions posted a picture on Twitter of Levy running with other defensive players and a second of him joining fellow linebackers in conditioning drills.

In Phase 1 of the off-season workout program, players are allowed to take part only in weight room and conditioning drills, as well as classroom work. It's not yet known if Levy will be cleared to take part in football drills next month.

Levy, who led the Lions with a career-high 151 tackles in 2014, said in an email to the Free Press last month that his recovery from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip was “going great.”

“I have been doing everything in the weight room since a few weeks after the season ended,” he wrote. “Last thing I have to do still is actually play football."

While Levy was on the field today, linebacker Stephen Tulloch, as expected, did not report for workouts.

Tulloch remains on the Lions' roster, but the team plans to trade or release him during or after the draft.

The Lions informed Tulloch they would be cutting him in February, but have held off on the roster move so far in the hopes they can extract some value after paying him a $500,000 roster bonus last month.
