Sony Electronics president to share leadership advice

Are you someone seeking guidance on how to improve your leadership skills or your company? Next month you can learn “what great leaders do differently” from a business leader who has done just that during a luncheon in Rancho Bernardo.

Sony Electronics President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Fasulo will share how he turned his company around within a couple years during the North San Diego Business Chamber’s 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 1 Leaders of Change luncheon. It will be held at Sony Electronic’s North American headquarters, 16535 Via Esprillo in Rancho Bernardo.

According to the chamber, in 2013 “Sony was a shadow of its former self. Many wondered whether the global, Japanese electronics innovator would recover.” By 2015, Fasulo — as its electronics division president — had turned the company around. His career with Sony began in 1984 as a junior financial analyst.

During his presentation, Fasulo will explain how he led Sony Electronics’ turnaround and the importance of leadership for success in any organization. He is also expected to talk about the importance of connecting and connections, what works and doesn’t work with leadership style, the importance of culture, rekindling of growth, how to think local and act global, and the connection between team, business, customers and community.

Per the chamber, “Fasulo is described as having ‘Managerial courage, a proven track record of ‘performing under the gun’ and an unwavering passion for people, family and business.’”

In recent years the chamber has occasionally offered a Leaders of Change event, held once or twice a year, plus an annual State of the Region luncheon around this time. Chamber President and CEO Debra Rosen said due to several other organizations also holding economic summit events — she said there are at least three others in North County — chamber leadership decided to discontinue State of the Region and instead turn Leaders of Change into a quarterly offering.

“We want to focus on what is more relevant for our members,” Rosen said, adding, “We’ll have really good topics and people speaking.”
