Check our NEW look!

After having our last logo for 10 years, we decided it was time for a face lift, but don’t worry! We’re still the same great organization that has worked with you to keep San Diego clean for more than 60 years! To go along with our new look, we've restructured our staff to help better serve our volunteers and the environment! Learn more about our new look and new staff roles here!

Thanks, MiresBall Brand Design for helping us develop a fresh look that encompasses our passion for the environment!

Creek2Bay hits home for ILACSD staff

Many of our staff members are seasoned Creek to Bay participants and for that reason, we wanted to give you a recap of the event from a fresh set of eyes. Welcome Annie, our newest Hotline Assistant! She joined the team in February and recently participated in her first Creek to Bay Cleanup! As fate would have it, our media site, the site that’s led by our staff, happened to be just blocks from where Annie grew up in Southcrest! Visit our blog to learn more about Annie’s first C2B experience, how she was able to give back to her own community and of course, the much anticipated event totals! Here is a sneak peak:

  • 106 cleanup sites countywide
  • 5,700 volunteers engaged
  • 125,000 pounds of debris removed

We’d also like to give a friendly reminder that there is still time cast your vote for the Sony “Passion in Action” photo contest! Please visit our Facebook Page, select the Creek2Bay Sony Photo Contest album, and “like” your favorite photo to cast your vote! The photo with the most "likes"/votes will be announced as the winner on Friday, May 8th. The winner will receive a brand new Sony Cyber-Shot courtesy of Sony Electronics!

Gleaning: A New Way to Reduce Food Waste

Aside from composting, a new food waste solution is gaining momentum – gleaning. When our Hotline Manager, Amanda, first presented the idea of gleaning, many of our staff members thought it was a play on words to promote green cleaning solutions, but we were wrong. Learn more about the environmental trend that's saving thousands of pounds of produce from landfills in our blog or by visiting www.WasteFreeSD.org and search “Gleaner” for more information.

Volunteer Spotlight

Vickie Church - volunteer spotlight

This month, ILACSD would like to recognize Vickie Church in our Volunteer Spotlight. A longtime site captain for our countywide events, Creek to Bay and Coastal Cleanup Day, Vickie went above and beyond for our recent cleanup. When she heard about our challenge of collecting enough cardboard boxes to pack supplies for our record 106 cleanup sites, she began to gather and drop off boxes at our office each week. She consistently leads successful cleanups with ILACSD and shows great leadership in her community. Thank you for your hard work and longstanding support!
