Education Spotlight: La Jolla High School

Hats off to David James, biology and marine science teacher at La Jolla High School! Since 2010, Mr. James has integrated our watershed programs into his curriculum because “it reinforces concepts that we have covered in class and introduces students to new concepts that are relative to our area.” He also values that through our presentations, “students learn about issues facing our environment…via hands on demonstrations.” Thanks, Mr. James for continuing to invite us into your classroom and supporting environmental stewardship!

If you’d like to see our environmental educators in your classroom, please contact our education team at for more information.

Water Conservation in Action

Earlier this fall, ILACSD partnered with Media Arts Center San Diego to capture water savings in action with a short educational video. Our Board President, Eric Johnson, volunteered his home as the backdrop for the video as he has made changes big and small to make his home more waterwise. Learn how easy some of these changes can be implemented to significantly increase the water efficiency of your home as we go behind the scenes of our video shoot!

Meet our Program Assistants

It is no secret that we’ve been busy this fall with Coastal Cleanup Day, Beautify Chula Vista Day, and our Fall Social Fundraiser, but we couldn’t do what we do all year round without our team of Program Assistants. Our Program Assistants are not volunteers, but rather they are an extension of our in office staff. They are an integral part of the ILACSD team and we were so inspired by all their hard work this fall that we dedicated a whole blog to them!

Farewell, MJB!

This week we say farewell and best wishes to our Director of Development and Marketing, Morgan Justice-Black as she transitions to a new role with San Diego Gas & Electric. Morgan has been with ILACSD for over 9 years, first starting as an intern. Over the years, she has developed countless relationships with ILACSD supporters and while we’re sad to see her go we wish her the very best in her new position. Read more about Morgan’s journey with ILACSD in her farewell blog here

High School students lead environmental change

volunteer spotlight - november

This month I Love A Clean San Diego would like to spotlight three volunteers who have taken their stewardship of the environment into their classroom! Kristina, Joshua, and Diego chose I Love A Clean San Diego for their senior passions project at High Tech High School, a project focused on learning about our organization, volunteering with us, and then creating an art piece for our office.  Each of them have interviewed different members of our staff to get a better idea of what we do. Following the interviews, they also joined over 700 other volunteers at Beautify Chula Vista Day.  These three helped out at Rice Canyon, where volunteers cleaned up nearly 11,500 pounds of debris as well as planted native species and painted over graffiti.  Thank you Kristina, Joshua, and Diego for inspiring our staff and channeling your passion into action!
