Brittany's guide to a litter-free beach day

For many San Diegans and out-of-towners, our beaches are perfect for relaxing and celebrating long holiday weekends. Unfortunately, a lot of litter is left behind, as well. As a San Diego native, our administrative assistant, Brittany is a true beach aficionado. For our latest blog, she has put together an easy to follow step-by-step guide to a waste-free day at the beach. Read more on our blog to learn how to enjoy summer while keeping our beaches litter-free!

Goodwill Shoes

Goodwill Tour highlights green initiatives

Have you ever donated an item and wondered what will happen to it? Ani, ILACSD’s Hotline Assistant, spends a lot of her time finding the best resources for our hotline callers and database users which is why she took a behind the scenes look at our local Goodwill facilities. While on the tour, she saw exactly what the life of a donated item looks like. Read more on our blog to see for yourself how Goodwill is successfully keeping valuable materials out of landfills.

Chula Vista students transform trash into art

CV july side bar

During May and June, our environmental educators worked with HighTech Elementary Chula Vista students during their lunch hour to encourage environmental stewardship. To promote a clean campus, the students collected trash from their playground and created "Shelly and Jelly: The Clean Project" (see photo above). Sea turtles eat jellyfish, but often times mistake plastic bags for dinner. Thank you, City of Chula Vista for investing in environmental stewardship!

Welcome our newest Clean Committee member!

CC - andrew

We are excited to welcome Andrew to our Clean Committee! He is a research biologist and his expertise on plant identification helps to direct volunteers about which plants are invasive and need to be removed during our cleanup events. We are always looking for more Clean Committee members, so check out our flyer to see if you have skills that fit the bill!

Local business & ILACSD join forces for clean a PB

TCG - corp cleanup

Once again, The Control Group and ILACSD teamed up to cleanup Pacific Beach.  We’re excited to share that their employee volunteers collected nearly 350 pounds of debris! Trash collected mostly included cigarette butts and small pieces of plastic, however, some volunteers found a whole kitchen sink! Following the cleanup, volunteers enjoyed craft beer provided by Amplified Ale Works and Firestone Walker Brewery! We look forward to working together with this passionate group again for years to come!
