Cheers to Pauline 1

Congrats, Pauline!

August was an exciting month at ILACSD – we celebrated our Executive Director Pauline Martinson’s 10 year anniversary! Over the last decade, Pauline and the organization both have grown to truly make an positive impact on our local environment. Couldn’t make it to our Summer Social party for Pauline? No problem! Get up to speed with one of our latest blogs that highlights Pauline’s journey as an environmental steward. Plus, our venue, Bottles & Wood, was such a hit that we plan to have a private shopping event for ILACSD supporters later this year. Stay tuned for that!

Back to school, the sustainable way

The school year has already begun for many San Diegan students and our educators have hit the ground running! Schools throughout San Diego are committed to keeping their environment clean and safe through our education programs, including Hilltop High in Chula Vista. Biology students and the Lancer Biological Society Conservation Club recently investigated the local watershed and its connections to the global world. Under the leadership of Gina Woodard, they’ve pledged to take action at this year’s Coastal Cleanup Day and Beautify Chula Vista Day! If you are looking for ways to augment your classroom learning, please reach out to our education team!

Want to learn more about starting off the school year on the green foot and living an eco-friendly lifestyle? Check out these two blogs from our environmental educators: Waste Free Lunches and 7 Habits of Highly Eco-Friendly People.

Simple Water Savings

Are you keeping up with the Joneses when it comes to water conservation? You don’t have to renovate your home to start saving water. Request your complementary water savings kit from SDG&E! You may be wondering “What does energy have to do with water savings?” In California, nearly 20% of our energy is spent transporting water from one place to another. After spending all that time, money and energy to get the water to San Diego, we want to ensure that every drop is used wisely. Start saving by requesting your kit today!

Fall Social Fundraiser

This year’s Fall Social will be like no other! From the Coaster Terrace at Belmont Park, you’ll be able to take in the sights and sounds of the very city and coastline that we work to protect. In addition to the incredible rooftop view of a San Diego sunset, you’ll connect with fellow environmental stewards and ILACSD supporters. We’ll have live music, drinks and delicious food waiting for you on Saturday, October 17th. Not to mention an incredible silent auction complete with a week stay in Hawaii, a staycation at Tower 23 and so much more!

Thank you, Coastal Cleanup Day Sponors!

sept15-donor-spotlight-final

Thank you to our top tier Coastal Cleanup Day sponsors that invested $15k or more to support a clean San Diego: San Diego Gas & Electric, the County of San Diego, and our presenting sponsor Think Blue San Diego. We'd also like to thank the California Coastal Commission for supporting all CCD projects statewide! Our event sponsors help to offset costs and ensure that we have enough supplies for all of our volunteers. Thank you, CCD sponsors!

September's Volunteer Spotlight

volunteer newsletter - stew aadnes

This month, we’d like to highlight one of our newest Coastal Cleanup Day site captains, Stew from Encinitas! Stew first got involved with ILACSD at a beach cleanup with his company, Geosyntec, and he soon realized that he wanted to do more. Not only did he sign up as a site captain, he also helped Geosyntec to come on board as a first-time CCD sponsor this year!

After pulling out several pieces of furniture and shopping carts out of his site earlier this year at Creek to Bay, he was just as eager to sign up to lead that site again for Coastal Cleanup Day.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and drive to protect our environment, Stew!
