Volunteer Spotlight

This month, ILACSD would like to spotlight one of the most enthusiastic volunteer groups from Cupid’s Cleanup: Smashtech! This energetic group of coworkers from Smashtech joined over 350 volunteers at Cupid’s Cleanup.  Volunteers picked up over 4,000 pounds of trash from the San Diego River and Grantville neighborhood! Smashtech brought out a team of nine employees – over half of the company.  They also donated the grabbers and buckets covered with artwork to ILACSD after the cleanup.  They thought it was a great team building experience for the company and they can’t wait for the next cleanup.  Thank you, Smashtech for bringing so much passion to Cupid’s Cleanup!

Composting Myth Debunked

One of the biggest concerns people have about composting is the smell. Well, what if we told you that with the right balance it shouldn't smell? When Ani, our Recycling Program Manager, started composting about a year ago, she too found herself with a foul-smelling compost bin. After doing some research, she soon found the solution. Learn how Ani tamed her compost bin by reading her latest blog!

Zero Waste Crafts

Zero Waste Crafts

Thanks to the generous support of the City of Encinitas and partnership with Healthy Day Partners, our education department introduced new zero waste workshops. At each workshop, we host a hands-on, zero waste craft activity to show how easy it is to give common items a second life. If you haven’t been to one of our workshops, don’t worry! Check out our Zero Waste Home Décor blog for simple step-by-step instructions on two of our most popular crafts: succulents in repurposed containers and repurposed glass bottles. Both activities are fun for all ages & use common household items!

Boys & Girls Club of South County

Every Thursday in February was an eco-action day at the Boys and Girls Club of South County. Throughout the month, ILACSD educators led students in our Recycling Relay, pollution demonstration, Trash Timeline, and Food Chain Showdown game. With the understanding of how debris impacts our environment, students were eager to take action in a cleanup, collecting an impressive 20 pounds of debris from a neighboring trail. Thanks to the City of Chula Vista for supporting such a comprehensive program!

Donor Spotlight: Chuck & Gail Kendall from Rancho Santa Fe

Mar16 donor spotlight

This month, we’d like to highlight Chuck and Gail Kendall of Rancho Santa Fe! Earlier this year, they chose ILACSD as the recipient of a $25,000 grant through their Family Donor Advised Fund at the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation. To further build upon their generosity, ILACSD has launched its first Matching Campaign! Every donation given in March & April will be matched by this grant! Give a gift today that will go twice as far to connect youth with nature and inspire thousands of lifelong environmental stewards.

Thank you, Chuck & Gail for investing in a clean San Diego!
