Sneak Peek at Preliminary CCD totals

While we’re still waiting for final numbers to come in, our preliminary calculations look great! About 7,500 volunteers across San Diego County dedicated their Saturday morning to cleaning and beautifying 105 sites! Within just 3 hours, volunteers removed 150,000 pounds of debris. Among some of the odd items collected, volunteers found a set of dentures, and a Macbook computer! Thank you all who joined us for our largest cleanup of the year to provide a little T.L.C to the communities where we live, work and play. We can't wait to share the final numbers with you soon!

Couldn’t make it to Coastal Cleanup Day? Don’t worry! We have two cleanups, Tijuana River Valley & Beautify Chula Vista Day, happening this month. Click the link below for details!

Revamped Watershed Education Program Debuts

After a summer hard at work updating the high school watershed presentations, our Education Department debuted the new program at Del Norte High School in 4S Ranch. With this fresh, Next Generation Science Standards-aligned approach, students examined real-life examples of common pollutants and gained a deeper understanding of why pollution prevention is so critical. Our educators visited all 10 biology classes at Del Norte, and will be returning in the spring. Thanks for integrating us into your curriculum and thank you, 4S Ranch Foundation for investing in our future environmental stewards!

 Donor Spotlight:

Carlsbad Charitable Foundation

CCF hand logo

Thanks to the generosity of the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, our Environmental Educators partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad for a whole week to provide engaging daily activities for their youth! Our educators focused on hands-on learning to show how youth can make a big impact when it comes to reducing waste, and protecting our environment. Check out some of our favorite pictures from the program here!

Volunteer Spotlight:
Tijuana River
Garden Volunteers!

volunteer spotlight - october

Out of our 105 Coastal Cleanup Day sites, one site in particular that we’d like to highlight for this month’s volunteer spotlight – volunteers from the Tijuana River Valley Community Garden! In addition to litter pickup, community members, gardeners, and SDG&E employee volunteers worked alongside one another to build compost bins, new gardening plots, and planted a new pollinator garden for bees and monarch butterflies. Thanks for using your creativity to beautify San Diego in a new way! I Love A Clean San Diego will be returning to the Tijuana River Valley this Saturday, October 3rd to remove even more litter before it is swept away to the Pacific Ocean. Let's make San Diego better, together.
